Frequency Shifter
The Frequency Shifter FX moves every frequency in the audio routed through it up or down by a fixed number of Hz. Unlike a pitch shifter, the shift breaks the harmonic relationships between overtones, producing anything from subtle shimmer to bell-like inharmonic textures. Like all FX, it receives audio via Delay Lines or its external input channel.
Frequency Shifter Properties#
- Shift: The amount by which every frequency in the input is shifted up (positive) or down (negative).
- Feedback: How much shifted output is fed back into the input. With feedback, a sustained note generates a "spiraling" staircase of shifted tones.
- Width: An offset between the left and right channels' frequency shift amounts. The two sides beat against each other, producing a slow stereo shimmer. This is most apparent at small shift values.
