Formant Filter

The Formant Filter FX imposes the resonances of a human vocal tract onto the audio routed through it, making instruments seem to speak. Like all FX, it receives audio via Delay Lines or its external input channel.

Formant Filter Properties#

• Vowel: The position along the A, E, I, O, U vowel sequence. Modulating this knob makes the signal "sing" or "speak" through the vowels.
• Size: The apparent vocal-tract size. A value of 1 is adult; smaller values shift the voice up toward a child or chipmunk character, while larger values shift it down toward a giant or monster.
• Resonance: How sharply the vowel formants are emphasized. Low values give a soft, breathy vowel quality; high values give a tight, focused, almost whistling resonance.
